Diplomacy

Roundtables (Track 1½—2 multilateral diplomacy)

On the evolving Draft Treaty, we bring together diplomats and experts to discuss technical treaty-specific topics, such as entry into force, and broader political issues facing the region such as regional security.

All discussions are held under the Chatham House rule (no attribution) to encourage frank and constructive engagement. Past roundtables (2018—2020) were held in Edinburgh, London, Zurich and online with participants ranging from government officials (in their personal capacity), to policy and technical experts from across the Middle East and beyond.

Citizen diplomacy

To advocate and promote the Draft Treaty and policy briefs to relevant governments and at major international disarmament conferences.

We have promoted the Draft Treaty and advocated for establishing the Zone in bilateral meetings with almost all regional governments, members of the United Nations Security Council and countries at the forefront of international disarmament, such as Ireland, Norway, New Zealand, Kazakhstan and South Africa.

We have also presented our work at the UN First Committee Meeting, Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Preparatory Committees, the Chemical Weapons Convention States Parties Conference, the Biological Weapons Convention Meeting of States Parties, the UN’s November Conference on the Zone, the European Union Nonproliferation and Disarmament Consortium, International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference, during the negotiations for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and other related events.
